(0 votes)Others agree -- this Heart Shoes art project making its way around the Hill is a little spooky. Now it has creeped into the CHS flickr pool. The "Elphaba Lives" tag -- I think -- is probably unrelated. But maybe these shoes are new style ruby slippers.

(1 votes)I am doing my homework about my upcoming move to Miller Park and am curious -- where is the local post office? Is it the Broadway location? 23rd and Union? I saw that the Postal Plus on Republican is the nearest place from which to send mail, but I admit I'm very skeptical. These reviews make it sound like sending mail can be a pleasant experience!

(1 votes)While we're posting free commercials for happening dot coms, we should mention the debut of the very cool and very locally focused EveryBlock service here in Seattle -- here's the EveryBlock Seattle Capitol Hill page. On it, you'll find news, and fun items scraped from various public databases like the most recent 911 reports, construction permits,...

(1 votes)If there's one thing this world is lacking, it's good neighborhood infographics. Redfin's new neighborhood real estate data page for Capitol Hill has some useful visualizations of the local market. If you're considering making a move, the charts provide an overview of what is happening out there -- kind of like those partly cloudy weather graphics...

(1 votes)We bet you were out of town this weekend. Even though the weather is usually beautiful, seems like Capitol Hill's residents evacuate the Hill on August's final summer weekends. So, are we right? Were you off visiting Bellingham on Saturday? Roll call, please. Select all that apply.

(5 votes)We haven't been yet and even if we had, probably wouldn't have reviewed the joint -- restaurant reviews, frankly, are a pain to write and usually end up unsatisfying and incomplete. Prefer, instead, to dole out praise, non-praise over the long run in bits and pieces. Fortunately, plenty of your neighbors have been to pasta genius Justin Neidermeyer's Spinasse already and want to tell you all about the place helping to expand the upper edge of the Pike/Pine corridor.
- Capitol Hill Triangle swallowed the charm and zucchini blossom frittata but choked on the bill. "Though we had a wonderful dinner (the waitstaff was outstanding and the atmosphere convivial), we left feeling that Barolo, La Spiga...

(4 votes)You may have noticed the row of stars and the report abuse link at the top of every post on Capitolhillseattle.com. On lots of sites, those kinds of tools are little more than eye candy and silly decoration.
But on CHS, the features actually do something so watch where you are pointing that thing!
- Report Abuse: This link gives you and the CHS community...

(1 votes)Even though Seattle didn't achieve true heat wave status* over the weekend, I'm positive that some Capitol Hill micro-climates did. For example, I was at Bauhaus yesterday afternoon, and inside the ladies room it must have been at least 126 degrees. I heard the men's room was even hotter, although no one was brave enough to make a direct comparison. Any other nominations for hottest micro-heat wave on the hill?
* While there is no official definition of heat wave, I prefer the criteria provided by A. T. Burrows in 1900. He "rigidly defined a 'hot wave' as a spell of three or more days on each of which the maximum shade temperature reaches or exceeds 90 °F (32 °C)." (Primary source: Glossary...

(0 votes)I'm not too sure - but this street art has been up for a while at the bus stop in front of the gay starbucks(pace City Limits)

(0 votes)Well, today's the day...

(0 votes)Yes, it's a wonderful day today, but that wouldn't stop an earthquake/terrorist/etc.
The Seattle City Emergency Management folks would like you to know about their Fall series of classes.
They also have an online video that you can enjoy.

(1 votes)I've got two of the six requirements covered, you?

(0 votes)All the details:

In brief:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The proposal is for the construction of two buildings including a four-story building on the eastern portion of the site (currently a surface parking lot) with 80 below-grade parking stalls, 5,000 sq. ft. of commercial use at the ground level and 45 residential...

(0 votes)By the time we made it to Volunteer Park this afternoon, the Toobs were tired and lazy. The hazy sun and steady breeze kept the cylinders mostly lying flat, lazing on the grass.
It's such a simple project -- we were told the Toobs are basically huge industrial garbage bags -- but it's a lot of fun to experience, even when the Toobs are lazy like they...

(2 votes)But just how hilly? I still haven't found a good website to tell me how steep any individual street is, or even a good topological map of downtown + Capitol Hill. (I need to know this stuff because I'm starting to bike to work... ooooof!)
But here's something I've found that is handy: Bikely.com! You can browse around to see other people's bike routes,...

(0 votes)If it's near 90 degrees with bright blue skies and the occasional gentle, waving breeze, it must be time for the Toobs to return to Volunteer Park.
Seattle Twist says Susan Robb's solar installation will start around 11a and continue through the day. You'll find it on the grassy field near the conservatory.
It's a simple, beautiful design that is equal parts science experiment and art installation. Don't know if Robb has any twists planned for this year but small changes in conditions make the show different from minute to minute. Favorite...

(0 votes)So I've never actually been inside Club Lagoon, but I was very concerned once I saw it listed for sale . Is the infamous car perched on the rooftop of the 80's / Miami beach themed club part of their lease? Will it soon disappear and change the look and feel of Broadway? Will anyone notice?
Or maybe the Lamborghini belongs to Subway....

(1 votes)People find god in some weird places. Now they can, um, find atheism in a weird place too -- the base of Capitol Hill. Neighborhood shutterbug xaotica shares this shot of the latest update to the billboard on the slope where Denny magically transforms into Olive.
Economic downturns, war, climate change -- too many people turning to a higher power these days. Makes you miss the good old days when nobody needed god.

(2 votes)This Saturday something called the Seattle Faerie Festival is happening in Volunteer Park. I have no clue what it is but none of the Faeries I know were invited.
Here is a super guide to Faerie Facts in case you run into one on Capitol Hill this weekend.
- Faeries love nature, woodland animals, flowers and herbs.
- They love certain stones, especially shiny...

(0 votes)Found this government sanctioned tagging last week on Pike. The intersection spy cams -- here's the one at John & Broadway -- bring together Capitol Hill's love for the automobile and surveillance. Curious as to which way this particular red light foto cam will point -- back toward Broadway or up toward 11th? It's marked near red-light-less 10th Ave. Maybe it's pointing at you.
