Volunteer Park to get its "no car" day

More details to come but I'm told that Volunteer Park will have a "no car" day in August. Volunteer Park doesn't get a lot of traffic so declaring no motor vehicles for a day isn't quite the same as it is for Golden Gate Park in SF or Central Park in NYC but should still be a good excuse to enjoy the VP roadways without fossil-fuel powered wheels. Maybe we'll plan a disco boombox skate group to celebrate -- though hillku would probably make better lead on this.

Ask them about it at tonight's happy hour:

Volunteer Park criterium?
My cycling companion and I had the good fortune of rolling onto Lake Washington Blvd this weekend when a sizable chunk of it was closed to cars. It was much more fun dodging kiddos rather than cars.

If they really want to make a difference..
A car-free Arboretum day would actually be noticeable.

Though it would make the Madison Park to Bellevue Square commute rather longer....

car-free
A car-free Broadway (PERMANENT) would be nice.

RE: car-free
How about car-free weekends, with booths set up street-fair style?

RE: car-free
That would be awesome, and a great location for the displaced farmer's mart. Weekend pedestrian-only streets have worked elsewhere to great success. Only the 49 and 60 would need to be rerouted. Maybe pike or pine would be more realistic since the logistics are already worked out for the block party etc.

Not to be a party pooper but
Sounds like a big waste o time. Who cares if its shut or not, there's minimal traffic. And if it actually means they have to hire more police or have people monitor the park or some such to keep order i will actually be pissed, total waste of taxpayer monies.
