No More Weekday Buffet at India Express

I was saddened to discover today that India Express now only has a buffet Saturday and Sunday. Apparently too few people and too much wasted food on M-F.

Now I don't want to risk getting into trouble in the treacherous waters of restaurant reviewing, so I'll just say that I love India Express. It's the first place I want to go when I return from out of town, and my favorite lunch place on the Hill. So any bad news for them is bad news for me . . .

Fortunately, they do now have a reduced-price lunch menu, which includes things like vegetable korma with rice and salad (pictured) for $5. And naan (plain and garlic) for only $1! So at least there's some good news. Too bad about that buffet, but still a great lunch.

(Oh, and please someone tell me if this is over that too micro line.)

Mirch masala
Mirch masala has a much much much much better Indian buffet and food in general. I'm sure that's why - I haven't been to India express since Mirch opened. I wouldn't be surprised if India express closed down soon which is sad. Hopefully they can move to a neighborhood with fewer options (19th?)

RE: Mirch masala
I guess people just have very very very very different standards for Indian food. (Though maybe it's a regions-of-India issue? I confess that I don't know enough to know whether or not Mirch Masala to India Express is apples to apples. All I know is that I disagree, jrrrl2.)

RE: Mirch masala
I understand -- I've gone to India Express for years, so I still think they're good. i just don't think they're nearly as good as Mirch. I don't really know much about Indian food regions either but I suspects both restaurants are mostly a catch-all for whatever Indian foods are popular here. I'm a vegetarian too, so that might have something to do with it. Never tried meat at either restaurant.

RE: Mirch masala
You make some good points here. I'll give Mirch another try (but don't tell the great people at India Express that I said that!).

boo hoo
I only went to this buffet a few times, but I was usually the only one...the food was great, the service very friendly & I always left with a very full belly. But I ALWAYS do at an Indian Buffet. Can I confess my favorite is Shamiana in Kirkland?! My new favorite lunch spot on Bway is Pho Cyclo. I love the rice noodle bowls. MMMM.

Don't like buffets at all
I really think they do Indian food a disservice. This may be a step in the right direction for India Express (I have yet to try them out). I do like Mirch Masala.
