Saturday Prop 8 protest starts in Volunteer Park

According to Slog:

Seattle, as part of a national day of action, is planning one big protest of Proposition 8 and the bigoted Utah church behind the measure: Festivities begin in Volunteer Park on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., a rally begins at noon, the march leaves at 1 p.m. and then heads down to Westlake Park for more protesting, rallying and speechifying.

An alternative...
Why protest to a bunch of trees? Get on TV *AND* make a difference. Make out with your same sex partner at 10:30 AM Saturday in a nationwide action of civil disobedience.

RE: An alternative...
I believe there is some effort to move the downtown fun up the Hill and, you know, work together.

so quick to criticize...
it's a march and a rally. "march" implies movement. we'll be starting at one place and going to another place. and there will be speechifying and whatnot. we have no control over the media and, if you're familiar how the media covers political protest, that should never really be the focus anyway. we also need to make sure the organizing continues on after this action. marriage equality hasn't moved forward since 2006. instead we get this jim crow version of marriage called "domestic partnerships".

Always different
I will be there. However, I do have to wonder why we have to always be different - a nationwide protest is planned at 10:30 am PST/1:30 pm EST at City Halls across the country. Imagine the impact - working together all over the country.

Actually..
The national protest is being organized by jointheimpact.com -- I think there's some confusion about the Seattle location, I've contacted the organizer here in Seattle to try to clear things up. I'm hoping to get a response... I went to her big gay wedding, afterall!!

it's up on the hill, not city hall
i contacted the seattle organizer about the location, and she confirmed that two groups have merged and it's going to be starting up on the hill at 10:30, then marching to westlake center.

they've got a fancy new server & web page:
