Larry Williams, Founder/CEO, FirstThursday Seattle. “And to be honest. I really do not have an answer. After many conversations with district staff, management, and Board Members, I still do not have an acceptable (to me) answer,” concluded Williams. In order to get the truth out, the Superintendent has agreed to come to FirstThursday Seattle’s November meeting to address the grade change as well as other questions regarding our public schools, i.e. the effect of decreased state funding, neighborhood school assignments, and more. Dr. Goodloe-Johnson is the former Superintendent of Charleston County School District in South Carolina, where she was responsible for the administration and supervision of a school system with 43,000 students, 5,500 employees and a $308 million budget. Prior to joining Charleston County School District in 2003, she served the students of Corpus Christi Independent School District in Texas. Dr. Maria Goodloe-Johnson was selected by the Seattle School Board on April 12, 2007, as the Superintendent of Seattle Public Schools. In this role, she directs all learning, teaching and operational activities for more than 45,000 students and 7,900 staff members. Dr. Goodloe-Johnson manages an operating budget of $556 million and a capital budget of about $220 million. Rev. James P. Broughton, III, Pastor, Damascus Missionary Baptist Church will deliver the Invocation and Benediction at FirstThursday Seattle’s November 5, 7 PM meeting.
