Stew from Olivar. Savory tarts from Poppy. Treats from B&O Espresso. Cherry pie from High 5 Pies and Fuel Coffee. No, not my lunch menu. The Capitol Hill Community Council is holding its (rescheduled!) public holiday party Thursday, 7p at the Cal Anderson park shelter house (just north of Bobby Morris playfield). It's free. It's community. It's potluck if you wanna bring a side to add.
Haven't had a CHS meet-up in awhile. Consider coming out and saying hi. I'll have crow pins, too, if you don't have yours yet.

Looks like mostly a peaceful night on Capitol Hill. Only two incidents we're checking out -- unsure of the severity of either.
First, there was a 911 callout to 321 Broadway E with report of a fire in the building around 2:30a. That's the location of Vivace's walk-up stand (oh, no, not the Vivace walk-up stand!) and a biz called The Hair Connection. No info from SFD yet and haven't been by so don't know if anybody was hurt or if there is damage.
UPDATE 12:12p
See comments below. No obvious damage. Will need to find out what the medic response was for.
Second, is even lighter on details. Twitter report of a large police response on the Hill around 3a. So, yes, it's one person but we are seeing an assault with weapons incident in the 911 logs around Seattle University at that time so we'll continue to look into it.
UPDATE 12:12p
Central District News has details on the Jefferson incident. Turns out, it was a false alarm but caused a massive response because the 911 caller said that an officer had been shot:
A caller to 911 had reported shots fired and that a police officer had been hit in the 1200 block of E. Jefferson. This started a large police and medic response, but after investigation they found that it was a false report. It's not immediately clear if anyone will face charges for the waste of manpower.

Read this one in a Last Days David Schmader voice. Strange Tuesday on the Hill. And, some of you admit it -- you scan this report to find out where you can score drugs on the Hill if you wanted to score drugs which you don't really want to do but think would be cool to try again someday.

A Capitol Hill icon is moving on -- Seattle PI's Kery Murakami is leaving the Hill: After 16 years of holding out on Capitol Hill -- while my friends left the neighborhood for faraway lands such as Beacon Hill, or West Seattle, or Freelard (that area between Fremont and Ballard) -- I'm finally leaving, too.
I first met Kery when he talked to us for this article. Since those early days when the blog was more a hobby than a business, I've run into Kery from time to time covering a story or when our paths crossed on trips across the Hill. He was always walking. Pretty much always had his j-school issued fedora on. Pretty much always in a bit of a hurry. I was hoping we'd find a way to team up on something Capitol Hill at some point. Guess, I waited too long. Your turn, Columbia City.

OK -- warm and fuzzy holiday time is over. Time to get back to what's going on in the dark cold streets of Capitol Hill.
And be careful out there -- might get windy tonight.

Dear Santa,
We have been a very good neighborhood this year. We mostly didn't do too many bad things though there was a little bit of graffiti here and there. We cleaned our plates and finished our lattes and helped keep the drains mostly clear. We didn't do a great job keeping the sidewalks free of ice -- but it's not because we didn't want to (please see requested gift #2). For the most part, we spent the year celebrating in the streets and being very, very good to each other.
Here is what Capitol Hill would like for Christmas this year. Please also read the comments for more.
Love,
CHS

Thus far, you've survived the worst snow and ice Seattle has seen in the dot com era. Sure, you've slipped and fallen a few times but, you, Capitol Hill, have survived. Time to double down!
In the wee hours of Monday morning, this entry was added to the CHS event calendar -- Extreme Snow Bike Race Smackdown Cal Anderson Extravaganza 2008.
We don't know exactly what it all means but we're certain it will be a good show if even one biker shows. If at least two cyclists heed the call, it will be epic and there will be ballads marking the day.

If you ever ate lunch at Charlie's, you probably saw Juanita. She had lunch there every day. But she died in November. The PI has the story.

Santa was out and about last night on Broadway. Beer in paper bag and all.
