The suspect arrested in the Kerse tribute tagging in Pike/Pine is a 20-year-old man named Long Hoang Le, Seattle Police Department confirms. He was booked early Sunday morning and released Monday night as the investigation of "malicious mischief" continues. Thanks to help from Scott at Central District News and Tracy over at the West Seattle Blog in tracking down the info.

cap to the hill's white on black

We're proud of cap to the hill -- they set out to have a different voice on the Hill and tell the stories from some of the slices of life we miss here on CHS. We've supported them from the beginning. They call us momma.

If only all Hill neighbors looked like this

Now that they're all growed up and a big blog, they can mother Hill blogs of their own. Recently, they welcomed Capitol Hillebrities to the spotlight. Now, we don't know Capitol Hillebrities -- and we really only just recently met cap to the hill. But here's a toast to more stories of the Hill on teh Internets -- even if the stories look way more glossy and beautiful than my neighbors (sorry neighbors, but it's true).

Like we said in the headline, we have a gift for the new site. Having worked in the "online space" for a decade, we're a little Web tech obsessed. So checked out whether the domains capitolhillebrities.com and hillebrities.com are available. They are -- or, they were. We snapped them up before the forces of evil could.

Hillebrities, whoever you are, the domains are yours as soon as CHS can transfer them to you. You just need to pay the 10 bucks per year to GoDaddy. Oh, and make us proud.

1222 E Pine Street, on the corner of 13th and Pine across from the fire station and The Cuff.  Proposed 6 story retail/restaurant/residential units with some amount of parking. I wonder that the developers are not concerned with the excess amount of empty retail spaces within the immediate neighborhood.  15th and E John Court over by Group Health still stands mostly empty.  Retail space along 12th just a few short blocks away stand empty.  Many new restaurants have already closed.  Is Capitol Hill still *the* destination to bring in new businesses or should developers look at using existing structures instead of building new developments and charging obscene amounts of rent?

UPDATE (jseattle): Here's the Google Street View of the corner:

SPD is using its fancy new blog to tout the collar of a 'prolific' tagger allegedly responsible for graffiti on "multiple buildings, including several car dealerships, and several businesses in the areas of 700 East Pike, 700 East Pine and 900 East Pike street."

Report sez the 20-year-old suspect was out to mark the recent death of Bay Area graffiti legend Kerse BTM and was caught in the act early Sunday morning. Hopefully they don't try to nail the kid for all the Kerse-work they find out there on the streets because this gentleman has company.

Will give SPD a call to see what else I can find out.

UPDATE: SPD confirmed that the suspected tagger is being charged with a felony level count of malicious mischief. From my understanding, if there was less than $1,500 damage, maximum sentence would be around 5 years. You can read more about the charge on the Avvo legal site. Also, no specific location of where he was apprehended.

Twitter neighbor ay1ene reports a crazy scene in the early hours of Saturday on Pine:

Picture: Twitter user ay1ene

ay1ene:
I've never seen so many cop cars in one place. Something bad happened by Linda's in Capitol Hill.   about 17 hours ago from txt

There's a woman laying on the sidewalk being attended to by EMTs. The store at Pine and Boylston is trashed.   about 17 hours ago from txt

Apparently there were a couple fights followed by looting. Nearly every cop in Seattle must be here.   about 17 hours ago from txt

There's at least one person on the ground inside the store. I hope everyone is OK.   about 17 hours ago from txt

A fight broke out in the parking lot across the street. The cops are yelling at them with megaphones.   about 17 hours ago from txt

Sounds like the market in the area called the Pine Food Store. Real-time 911 confirms a call to the area around 1:45a. We'll check scanner archives and give SPD a call to see what other details they'll cough up.

A relatively quiet Thursday in the Capitol Hill region of the East Precinct. Two of these incidents -- the man in the yard and the 911 hang-up -- are so far north, not sure they count as Capitol Hill. The pill thing? More First Hill. Without expanding the boundaries, Capitol Hill was nearly incident-free in the Central District News scanner monitoring. Surely worthy of another 'where is Capitol Hill' post.

Central District News East Precinct Scanner - Capitol Hill - Thur. 11/13/2008 - Full Report

9:59AM - 1800 24th Ave E - Suspicious circumstances - Caller came home to find a man in his yard. Suspect is a black male, 20s, gray sweatshirt

10:46AM - 1300 Madison - Narcotics Activity - A man and a woman are exchanging money for pills.

12:01PM - 900 E Newton St - 911 Hang-up - Call from a business

3:17PM - 2700 Boyer Ave E - Burglary - Resident got home to find evidence of a forced entry.

It was only a week ago and it is already feeling like history. Here's one more batch of instant nostalgia from the Hill's enthusiasm for Barack Obama from the CHS flickr pool. BTW, you can always find the latest from the pool in our homepage sidebar if you need a quick Capitol Hill photo fix. These were selected from among flickr's 'most interesting' Obama photos in the CHS pool. Thanks to JennaUjaycoxfilm, Fecki, ERIK98122, andAdonisPhotos for contributing.

Looking to restore your faith in art and humanity? It's the second Tuesday of the month -- time for 2Tue, Capitol Hill's art walk.

2Tue on MySpace

Like the sound of Copper Vine's exhibit by artist Karen Hewig: "Her designs are inspired by nature and expressed in the unlimited potential of felt." Unlimited!

For a list of participating locations in and around the Pike/Pine corridor, check out the 2Tue page.
