RE: Property Information
I'm not sure where you are looking but Parcel Viewer and the related documents available online show that there are two parcels involved here (at the time of the sale). Parcel 6852700325 (southern of the two parcels) was assessed at $648,000 at the time of purchase. Parcel 6852700330 was assessed at $491,000. Total asssessed value for the 2 parcels was $1,139,000. These are 2008 assessed values. In 2010, the values have decreased to $530K and $401K, respectively. So at the time of purchase, they were paying very close to assessed value for the 2 properties. |

RE: Property Information

| I can't access parcel viewer at the moment. But IIRC there are actually 2 parcels that total close to $1M so the sale price is closer to the assessed value than it may appear from viewing one parcel record. | |

Finally found out Dick's guitarist's name
His name is Ron Fulton. He was playing at Dick's on Sat afternoon (Feb 6th). Here he is performing (with an interview after) on the Seattle Channel. And his myspace page. PS: He has a show Feb. 11th at Studio Seven. |

Preventive measure?
Perhaps the owners are going through the landmark nomination process as a preemptive move (hoping that it will be rejected for landmark status or beat anyone to the punch who might attempt a save-the-building nomination later) similar to the Ballard Dennys back in 2008. (Of course, the board later reversed their decision and the building was demolished.) |

permits

Permits for that address indicate that they want to demo this building and then "Establish use as retail and residential apartments and construct new mixed use building." (Looks like these plans have been in the works off/on for the past few years - including this land use notice w/attached decision from 2008, with the latest permitting process in progress between Oct-Dec 2009). Maybe they are renting the space until the new project gets going? |

LA food trucks story on CBS Sunday Morning
And even further south to LA... Saw this story on CBS Sunday Morning in November. All sorts of cuisine - from hot dogs to Korean-Mexican fusion to cupcakes - sold from mobile food trucks all around LA. PS: Sunday Morning is an awesome show if you are ever up that early (7:30-9am) or have room on the DVR. |

Yeah, the lightning & thunder (flash-boom! about 3 times), sideways wind and then hail also hit us on the Hill around 11:35. PS: Everybody talks about the weather - whether it is exciting/important or not. Last night, it was pretty exciting and intense esp. when you are inside safe and warm and the lights are staying on. |

Bumping this up
| Hey Justin, maybe you are already planning to do this but...perhaps this story should be moved up to the top of the page for anyone unaware of the funeral procession route on Friday morning - not only for those wishing to pay respects but for commuters who will need to make wide detours since some of the usual routes to the UW and 520 will be restricted in the morning. | |

| Hey Justin, this address has an open DPD permit w/Pacific Crest Environmental as one of the contacts. Looks like it might relate to excavation and clean up on the property (also a demolition permit issued in 2007). Also, one of the other contacts is an environmental consultant w/work in groundwater contamination (Montague Busbee). | |

parking helper/guards
| I used to have the semi-utopian idea that there should be parking helpers w/their white gloves (sorta like the guys directing cars on the ferries) who would direct drivers to their on-street parking spots and assure the most effecient use of space. Like something that probably already exists in Japan or Singapore. | |

I haven't been to the Capitol Club in years but they do private rentals for events. Friends rented the front room (Blue Room) for a couple different birthday gatherings way back in 2002 & 2003 and it was pretty cool. Looks like cost is based on minimum food & drink instead of a set rental fee. More info: http://www.thecapitolclub.net/blue-room.aspx?showcaseID=46 |

near Boston

I caught a glimpse of this accident at 6:45pm while driving (taking the turn from Boston to 10th going north). The accident was actually just south of E. Boston St (map shows it further south). All cars going up the hill had to take the left at Boston and wing it from there. Accident looked like cars were sprawled all across the road (north facing car in the southbound lane against parked cars) and a lot of police, fire, etc. |

Tacoma fire related to Plum

Seadevi, I don't know if you saw my comment on the last Plum posting. Wondering how it might affect Plum: "A 2-alarm fire destroyed a historic Tacoma market (Quicky Grocery Mart) Monday afternoon....The owner (Niombi Howell) for the past 40 years says the mart is the main supply location for a chain of vegan restaurants in Tacoma and Seattle." RE: Healthy Parks, Healthy You
Justin, you don't see police reports because the police don't do anything about it. These guys/cruisers/parkers are doing their thing all hours of the day and night and the police are rarely in the park and are even more rarely called in to enforce anything. I agree w/others here that this is an attempt to shut down the cruising and has nothing to do w/any supposed "healthy you" initiatives. |

J, I have a Rancho Bravo question but your post below about reviews doesn't allow comments and the reviews section requires a star rating to post (and this isn't exactly a 5 star question). So: Is the drive thru in use at Rancho Bravo or is it walk-in only? Thanks! |

RE: pedestrian entitlement
I'm a pedestrian and a driver and I think drivers are pretty oblivious to everything around them most of the time. But I found it interesting to read this Q & A in the PI. It describes the right-of-way when it comes to drivers vs. pedestrians in unmarked intersections. And it basically says that if a ped hasn't stepped into the roadway / unmarked intersection then the driver is not required to stop (no specific law or code is cited). |

RE: previously (before Sugar)
I remembered Velocity but my secret computer source for the rest was: searching on the Stranger website - all of their club listings are searchable (at least back to 2001) but take a little bit of wading through (you know what that's like). I like how the Comet just keeps on going though. I went there in '91 and it wasn't new then. |

Very sorry to hear about this. Years ago, their articles on some old homes inspired me to research the history of my house and its creepy past. Not sure if everyone knows that the Capitol Hill Times has been around since way back in 1926. |

RE: WTF?
| Hill Bill, you probably aren't seeing the high chairs because the little tykes aren't staying up & out for late-night happy hour. Try an early bird dinner (5pm) and the kids and the chairs will be a little more visible. | |

'94 and fave Linda's memory
In 1994, I was a year out of college, living in Seattle, getting fired (1st and only time) from a crap job. My dog died, Dankens on the Ave closed (best ice cream place ever!), KXRX turned into a country station and Kurt died (I was so pissed at the photo of his body on the cover of the Seattle Times that Saturday morning but I still kept the paper all these years). Favorite Linda's moment (I wasn't a regular but I went there several times in the 90s): Me (sitting at the bar): So, do I get a discount since my name's Linda? Bartender: Are you the Linda who owns the place? Me: Uh, no. Bartender: Sorry, no discounts. Me (to my friend): Well, it didn't hurt to ask. A moment later, the bartender puts a pint of beer in front of me and says something about a bad pour, no charge. |

RE: "The Horror! The Horror!" Outage Continues
We've been having similar problems as you and Final Answer for at least a few months (although no actual outages). We pay for up to 7mb service and normally end up with anywhere from .3mb to 5mb. The best speeds seem to be early morning (before 9am) and then the rest of the day is super slow. The Qwest technician came out recently (since it was clear that the problem wasn't internal to our house) and things haven't changed. We've been using the speakeasy speedtest but didn't get any info about Qwest's speedtest app. |

retrofit

| Thanks for sharing this info. I looked through the Design Guide but it was unclear about the future of Retrofit - my favorite favorite furniture store. It mentions that the building housing Retrofit will be retained. Any info about the future of Retrofit the business? Thanks! | |

Other field
I think a lot of this complaining and criticism is unnecessary (for several reasons but most especially) when you consider that there was an Other field on the question. This gave anyone a free form option for sharing their housing "status." I selected the other choice and wrote in my housing situation. And it didn't upset me in the least that I didn't fit into one of the set categories (I was also familiar w/the originating post on the subject). I know J isn't technically a sociologist (although he seems like many of us to enjoy observing and discussing human interaction and behavior) and I know that his questions were intended for some fact-finding combined with fun - kinda like CHS itself. |

property for sale
| A quick internet search on this address found that this property is actually for sale as 2 parcels. There are 2 listings: one for the house (with a couple photos of the interior) and one for the adjoining vacant lot. | |

parcel viewer info
Checking in parcel viewer, the Septieme property (212 Broadway) was just purchased last week (1/9/09) by the same people/group/LLC - RDMSRMB230 LLC - that owns the B of A property. Here's the link to the record. The other 2 properties (216 & 220 B'way) do not currently show recent sales. |

I was thinking of them for the CH Soundtrack post, too. Used to always see Reggie on Broadway and 15th and once in Volunteer Park. Have seen them perform all over town but only once on the Hill at Neumo's. The Singles soundtrack seems like another obvious choice. |
