RE: not an excuse for another ugly building
A) I think it's a great-looking design. Old brick apartment buildings are cool looking too, but why does everything have to look the same?

B) I love the fact that that park is in the shade, particularly when I'm walking home from downtown on a hot summer day -- I look forward to that little oasis of shade and green in the middle of all of the hot pavement of the city. However, I also love the idea of connecting the building to the park to get more use out of it, perhaps with making 15th ped only.

I couldn't agree more. I really hope this project happens. I walk by this site on my way to work everyday -- I'm looking forward to watching it come together.

nightmare
My daughter's bus was 30 minutes late, and then we made the mistake of putting her on the bus instead of just driving her straight to school. We followed her bus as it made loops and figure 8s (literally) throughout the CD and Madrona before finally getting to her school (Stevens) about a half hour late. You'd think they'd give the bus drivers a chance to practice their route before the first day of school.

annoying
Yeah, what was up with that? Woke me up at 4am. And the circling motion of the copter meant that everytime it started fading away I would think it was finally going away, but then it would come back just as loud as it circled back around. Annoying. We're at 21st/Pine (radio point) and it appeared to be hovering right over Madison Market/Trader Joe's, from my viewpoint.

RE: ugh
Their editorial board really is an awful group of conservative anti-transit, anti-tax eastsiders. But they generally cover sports and local news pretty well. And bravo to them for partnering with neighborhood blogs rather than just setting up a competing site.

which space?
Is it going to be in the big corner space at 12th/Madison, or in one of the smaller spaces up the block?

seriously?
Just make it a habit to bring your own bags. That's all you gotta do. You can buy ones that fold into a teeny little stuff sack that's part of the bag -- I just keep a few in the car and one in my backpack to use as for extra capacity when I stop by on my way home from work. And on those rare occassions when you forget your bags, is 10 cents really gonna kill you? For me, it's just enough to remind me to bring my bags next time. The amount of energy you spent typing this post could have been spent buying a reusable bag.

good times
I'm so happy to have good basic cheap mexican food that I can walk to. No, it's not gourmet, but that's not the point. Added bonus: they offer fish as a meat option, which you don't often find at a standard taco bus. We took our kids there last night and they gobbled down their quesadillas and fought over the last scraps of beans and rice.

12th isn't going to happen
The whole reason this streetcar line came about is because First Hill lost their station. That station was to have entrances at Broadway/Madison and Summit/Madison (to the west of Broadway). The main point of that station was to serve the employement base of the hospitals (Swedish, Viriginia Mason, Harborview) as well as the surrounding dense residential hood. The streetcar is intended to connect that same station area to the LRT stations at IDS and Cap Hill. If anything, the folks who complained about losing "their" station and who are being placated by this streetcar line would probably argue to build it further west (to better serve Harborview), not east. Personally I would love to see the streetcar on 12th, as I live not too far away, but I just don't see it happening. This line is more political than anything else. Of course a bus would be just as effective as a streetcar. That's not the point. It's a replacement for the lost "hospital" LRT station, so it needs to be near the hospitals.

storage site
That's exciting to hear about a mixed-use project replacing the storage site someday. That deadzone along both sides of the building is annoying.

I agree with cheesecake -- those are curb bulbs, not bus bulbs. Either way, I fully support both.

What would be cool would be a tram/gondola like Portland has from the Willamette up to OHSU. http://www.portlandtram.org/

RE: 12th Ave Support
Yep, Madison line was cable car, not streetcar (according to HistoryLink).

RE: Streetcar
Last alignment I saw had it going down Jackson to 5th, but that assumed the waterfront streetcar line (which terminates at the same location) would be back in operation at some point. I'm sure they're considering having it go further depending on what happens with whatever succeeds the waterfront line.

is there anything new about this?
Andrew Taylor's been keeping us up on this for years now. Did Mueller get financing to start construction, or is this just a re-hash of old news?

Why do they have to make it so confusing on lake wash blvd? How about just closing it to cars every Saturday 11am - 3pm or something? Keept it simple and easy to remember, folks!

RE: Miller boundaries
Fine...so we live in the Mad-Miller Urban Village but not Miller Park proper. I don't that CHS query ever came up with a final answer on the name of our micro-hood. "Burner Triangle" was the one that I remember the most, only because I had no idea there was a large number of burners (i.e., people who frequent Burning Man) in this area. Whatever -- I guess I shouldn't care what it's called and just enjoy being able to take advantage of all that cap hill and the CD have to offer...

miller park
FYI, the official Miller Park Neighborhood boundary (as per Andrew Taylor's website) extends south of Madison to Pine Street. Gotta say that we feel a bit snubbed, as we live in that triangle bounded by Madison/Pine/23rd.
