(Photo: It's My Darlin') This is my first Hill Style post for CHS. You may have read about my street fashion site when CHS wrote about it earlier this year. Dio caught my eye at the Walgreens on Broadway and Pine. I am such a big fan of throwing a bow tie into an everyday outfit. From the accessories to the well tailored coat Dio manages to look relaxed, dressy, dapper, and fun all at once. For more street style photos from Capitol Hill and the rest of the city see my website: www.itsmydarlin.com When Capitol Hill's second stealth Starbucks (AKA Roy St Coffee and Tea) opens in the 700 Broadway building, it won't be sharing the inconspicuous, bubble filled entry way with FedEx Office next door. Crews have installed stairs for what looks like a new, more prominent entrance on the Broadway side of the building (facing SW). The inside still looks about how it looked over a month ago, with none of the interior in place. And for those of you that hang out in the twitters, it looks like @RoyStCoffee is on there too, although they haven't tweeted anything yet. Friday, the near infamous Dead Baby Bike club downhill challenge took over the intersection of Pike and 10th in preparation for their annual beer fueled high speed bike race. This years competition began at the Comet Tavern, where contestants and spectators steadied their nerves for the customary no-holds barred race to the death. A gleeful crowd swelled, nearly filling the intersection outside the Comet Tavern, occasionally blocking traffic but without serious incident. Bicycles were heaped on every rack and signpost around the corner as participants visited local watering holes. Custom built tallbikes, costumed riders and a bike mounted sound system turned 10th ave. into a street party until roughly 6:45 when the starting pistols fired and the crowds emptied from the tavern, found their wheels and headed South to Georgetown. The evening ended at the Dead Baby Bike club Headquarters with multiple bands and performances, including bike-driven amusement park rides by Cyclecide, bike... Found this very talented guy outside the Harvard Square QFC. He was using an amp with the cello. Very talented. He really cranks it up near the halfway mark. I think he said his name is Brandon Smith.
I have to admit I didn't get teary-eyed last night, but I did this morning when I read about our neighbors cleaning up after the party: http://community.livejournal.com/seattle/5529876.html http://www.komonews.com/news/local/33897234.html I'd love to know the hero(ine) who got this rolling. The Obama impromptu celebration at Broadway and Pike. More photos here:
Ok, we all know the mnemonic for remembering the downtown street names: "Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Protest".
What I'm looking for is another for the streets that cross Broadway on Capitol Hill: Olive St, Howell, Denny, Olive Way/John, Thomas, Harrison, Republican, Mercer, Roy, (optional: Aloha, Prospect, Highland, Galer) ... and another one for the streets in Belltown: Stewart, Virginia, Lenora, Blanchard, Bell, Battery, Wall, Vine, Cedar, Clay, Broad Does anyone know any mnemonics for these? If not, feel free to make some up. Bonus: here's a tip for numbered streets like: 65th Ave NE NE 65th Ave The directional letter which is closest to the number tells you which direction it runs. So the first one has the N closest to 65th so it runs north-south. The second has the E closest to 65th so it runs east-west. Note: cross-posted at LiveJournal Seattle I noticed a stage going up over at RPlace today. Apparently, they're setting up for tonight's block party for the Gay Softball World Series. Tomorrow, the party moves over to Purr and will be going until 2AM. They've been doing some testing of the sound system, and it does kick out quite the phat beat, so if you're living in the neighborhood, you may as well just go down and dance, because you won't be getting any sleep.
